ARE MEN REALLY FROM MARS?
A man's skin is approximately 20% thicker than a woman's skin and is typically firmer because it is richer in collagen and elastin. However, because of more active sebaceous glands, men tend to have larger pores and their skin tends to be much oilier. Basically this means that men are more prone to clogged pores, which can sometimes lead to acne. Men's skin is also more prone to dehydration because of routine shaving.
It is important for men to properly cleanse their skin daily, no matter what their skin type. Deep cleansing of the skin keeps the pores clear for healthy, great looking skin. The skin's aging process is the same in men and women, but because men's skin is thicker, and richer in collagen, a man's skin is initially more resistant to the effects of the sun and other environmental factors. Somewhere between the ages of 40 and 50 the dermis layer in a man's skin thins, and the level of collagen decreases naturally, yet causes more marked, dramatic wrinkling and aging of a man's skin.
A complimentary skin care consultation can address any of his concerns. With appropriate skin care men can prevent and correct the visible signs of aging just as women can.
Some common skin care issues men might be faced with are:
PROBLEM - SOLUTION
Broken capillaries of the face and nose - Laser treatment
Dry, patchy skin - Topical skin care cream
Redness of the face and neck - Laser treatment
Oily skin & Break outs - Deep cleansing facial and/or peels
YOUR FACE'S SECRET WEAPON
Stop Mother Nature in her tracks and retain that youthful firmness, tightness, with Thermage!
As we approach our late 20's and 30's, the body's ability to produce collagen begins to slow down, causing visible signs of aging in the skin. Lines and wrinkles will start to appear because as we begin to lose the collagen we also begin to lose some of the elasticity in the skin.
With Thermage treatments radiofrequency will target problem areas and help to stimulate collagen production in the skin, therefore increasing the amount of collagen in the skin. Treating the skin with Thermage at an earlier age can help you retain the appearance of tighter, younger looking skin long before the signs of aging are very prominent in the skin. Even months after Thermage treatment you will notice your skin appears tighter and firmer as the skin starts to produce more collagen.
- There is absolutely no downtime with Thermage, and treatments are less than an hour
- Thermage treatments can also be done on the eye area and the body
BOTOX FOR A SMILE...
Botox can help to relax the muscles around the mouth area too! Botox treatments can help to correct the appearance of "smokers' lips", the deep lines above the upper lip, and can also help a "gummy smile" by lowering the top lip. Botox treatments can even help to lift the corners of the mouth to enhance your smile. So why not treat your smile... to Botox.

DID YOU KNOW...
During the summer months you'll be spending more time at the beach or the gym so remember it's really important to shower after outdoor activities or exercise to wash away oil and perspiration. It's a good idea to carry bottled water, pre-packaged washcloths or wipes if you don't have access to a shower right after. Remember to always re-apply your sunblock after showering if you'll still be outdoors.
On those hot summer days when you're out in the sun for extended periods, your skin may feel very warm to the touch. Did you know that instead of eating that slice of cold watermelon you can place it directly onto the skin to actually help cool you down
MYTH BUSTERS: Summer Skin, Part 1
MYTH 1: I use fake tan regularly which gives me a lovely golden brown color so I don't feel the need to cover up and protect my skin in the sun.
FACT: Using fake tan products is a great way to achieve that bronzed goddess look – but don't be fooled when stepping out into the sun. Most tanning products do not offer protection against sunlight, so you still need to use sun protection and follow all of the safety tips as normal when you're out in the sun.
As well as your tanning cream, ensure that you slap on some sun protection when out and about. Experts recommend using an SPF 30 or above. Not only will this help to reduce your risks of developing cancer but it will also help to protect your skin from premature ageing – which no amount of fake tan will be able to hide!
MYTH #2 – Sunscreens with a high SPF prevent damage from the sun's rays.
FACT: The higher the SPF number the more protection there is from burning caused by UVB radiation.
While sunburn is mainly caused by UVB rays, research now shows that UVA rays may be just as, if not more, important in causing premature skin aging and skin cancer. Although broad-spectrum sunscreens give protection against both, product labeling can be misleading with the product possibly offering very low UVA protection.
The UVA Star Rating System gives a good indication of the quality of protection against UVA rays, with one star being a low level of protection and five-stars being the highest level of UVA protection that you can get and this is better than those products making the new ‘broad spectrum protection' claim, whilst not stating their actual UVA protection level.
MYTH #3 – Water resistant products protect me while I am in the water and I don't need to re-apply them when I sunbathe.
FACT: Water resistant products do afford protection in the water, but you need to take care. Depending on how long you are in the water and what activities you may do, the sun cream may be totally or partially lost; it almost certainly will be removed when you towel yourself dry. The only safe advice is to regularly re-apply the sun cream, especially after toweling.
Many people do not realize how much sun damage they are getting when they are in, or near, the water. This is because the cooling effect of the water lessens the warning usually caused by the sun's heat, but does not reduce the light incident on the skin. Equally, many parents paddle in the water whilst safe-guarding their children and do not think about protecting themselves from the incident and reflected light they are exposed to.
Always ensure that you use a water resistant SPF 30 or above and remember to re-apply it straight after swimming. Taking extra care with children is vital and make sure they wear T-shirts for extra protection whilst swimming.

Q: WHAT ARE YOUR TIPS FOR KEEPING FAIR SKIN LUMINOUS?
A: People with fair skin need to protect themselves from the sun as much as possible. That means sunblock with a high SPF and UVA and UVB protection. Everyday a hat is highly recommended when performing outside activities. The other important aspect is to keep the skin hydrated with a good hydrating and anti-oxidant lotion in the morning. Recommended for night time use a nourishing cream with vitamin A.
