IT'S BACK TO SCHOOL TIME, ALREADY…

Acne Before & After

New classes, new teachers and way too much homework! Hanging out with your friends again is great, but you won't feel quite like yourself if your skin doesn't look great, too.

The new school year can be stressful, which unfortunately means acne & break-outs.

We want assure you that someone on our medical staff is always available to help. Please schedule a skin care consultation with our *Acne Treatment Center; we'll evaluate your skin and give you treatment options to help your skin look it's best. Whether you just need advice on how to properly cleanse and care for your skin at home or an acne treatment here in the office would be best for you, our caring staff will point you in the right direction. You may also visit our website at www.shamban-md.com for more information on our practice and some of the services we provide. We offer many effective laser treatments as well as spa treatments & facials to help you on your way to clear, healthy skin:

Deep Cleansing Acne Facials
Our most popular facial. Includes a thorough, deep cleansing of the skin, steaming and extractions as well.

Chemical Peels
We offer numerous different peels to help clarify the skin, removing dirt, debris & dead skin cells to reveal fresh, new skin. One of the P.A.'s in our acne treatment center can help you decide which peel is best for your skin.

Isolaz Laser Treatments
This treatment uses both a laser and a vacuum. The vacuum cleanses the pores to loosen and extract dirt, blackheads and excess oil, while the laser helps to destroy acne-causing bacteria and to immediately dry and flatten blemishes. Results may be seen as soon as 48 hours following a treatment.

SmoothBeam Laser Treatments
Smoothbeam treatments help to destroy acne-causing bacteria and prevent new acne from forming by targeting overactive sebaceous glands in the skin. Smoothbeam treatments also help to stimulate collagen production which can help to improve the appearance of atrophic acne scarring.

PDT (PhotoDynamic Therapy)
with Blue Light

Blue Light Therapy acne treatments target sebaceous oil glands to destroy acne-causing bacteria in the skin. It's often used in conjunction with a topical application of Levulan (aminolevulinic acid) which is stimulated by the blue light. This helps to reduce acne lesions & pustules on the skin. The blue light treats both active and inactive sebaceous glands to prevent new acne. This may be an option for treating patients with moderate to severe acne.

*We bill most PPO insurances for your consultation and follow-up medical visits, and we have Saturday hours, too!

DID YOU KNOW...

Did you know that acne is the most common skin disease treated by doctors? Acne is a chronic condition affecting more than 85% of teens and young adults. Adolescent or teen acne usually starts somewhere between the ages of 10 and 13, usually going away or lessening by the time you are in your 20's. Acne tends to be worse in people with oily skin, and teen acne is usually worse in boys than in girls. It is also more common in women for acne to continue into adulthood, even into their 40's & 50's. That said, acne is also something we just don't like to talk about. Unfortunately many patients feel uneasy discussing acne even with their own doctors. So much so that one patient survey revealed that although over 40% of patients wanted to discuss acne with their doctor less than 20% of those patients actually did.

Just so you know we would be happy to consult with you about teen or adult acne, whether you're a guy or a girl with acne. We want you to feel good about yourself and your skin, we want all smiles when you look in the mirror! Give us a call at 310-828-2282 to schedule a consultation appointment with someone on our medical staff, and you can always visit our website at www.shamban-md.com to learn more about our practice and the services we provide.

MYTH BUSTERS:
Skin Care

MYTH: Is it true that people get acne because of eating things like fried foods and chocolate?

No. There has been extensive scientific research done regarding the correlation of diet and acne but results are inconclusive. There is no solid evidence confirming that certain foods do any harm to the skin or cause acne. If you do notice changes in your skin with eating certain foods your body might be having a reaction from that particular food, it is not necessarily the food exacerbating your acne. Of course a healthy diet & lots of water help your skin tremendously by both boosting the immune system and ridding the body of impurities.
