U.S. sales are up more than 25% in recent years. New products and lines debut daily, as men of all ages and lifestyles invest in keeping their skin healthy, attractive, and youthful. Although skin care essentials—cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing, and protecting from sun damage—are basically the same for men and women, there are some key differences between men’s skin and women’s skin. Men have thicker skin, literally. And male skin contains fewer nerve endings, so men are less sensitive to treatments that may cause discomfort for women Men produce more sweat—even though women have more sweat glands overall—so cleansing is important. Men have smaller oil glands and larger pores than women. Those smaller glands actually produce more oil to clog those large pores, making men’s skin more acne-prone than women’s—especially on the neck and back.
