 Mommies. Whether you have one, are one, or at least know one, chances are there's at least one of them in your life—and she's a lady whose pretty special. She's probably also a multitasking maniac, going from doing deals to dance recital to dealing with dinner without skipping a beat. We tend to take mommies for granted (even the more so when that mommy is us!), so here at AVA MD we wanted to give you some pretty amazing ways to let her know she's number one: our Mother's Day packages help mom look like there's no way she's a mom.

 Skin Cancer Awareness Month
It's good to go through life, knowing what you know. For instance, I know not to get into a conversation with my 28-year old son's best friend about multi-paradigm computer programming language. I know that if a pipe leaks in my house, I send somebody else to Home Depot. But if there's one thing I do know inside and out, something people rely on me to keynote address at international conferences and explain on the evening news, it's the nature of beauty. In fact, I'm usually booked out at my practice a couple of months in advance, because people trust me to know what looks good.
So, trust me. A tan does not look good.

Staff Spotlight On: Bernice Cohen, RN, BSN, PHN – nurse injector and laser specialist at AVA MD, Beverly Hills
What is your background?
 I was born in Berlin, Germany, and I worked as an international model for 15 years. During that time, I became fascinated with what makes a face and body beautiful. I watched how the make-up artists spent hours creating light and shadow in the perfect combination to enhance fullness and youthfulness in the face. Having this experience really helped to train my eye. I love applying this knowledge from my former career to help my current patients look and feel beautiful.
What is your specialty?
Subtlety. Everyone is beautiful. It's my job to enhance that beauty and keep it looking natural. And beauty is a balance; I don't like to overload. I'm not looking to instantly ‘fix’ anyone—I strive to produce a subtle, natural effect making smaller improvements over time so no one will know they have ‘done anything.’ More importantly, they won't look like they've ‘done anything!’
When do you see the best results?
When a patient trusts me to develop a long term plan. Through subtle maintenance and prevention, I can help them actually get better looking over time. I have many loyal patients that come back again and again. People look at them and say, wow—she really takes care of herself! But no one knows the reason why.
What's your definition of success?
When a patient tells me they feel they don't need to wear makeup anymore—that they feel THAT good about how they look.
What do you do when you are not at the office?
I have a wonderful family. I am married to Jason Cohen, who works as a cancer surgeon at Cedars Sinai. We have three daughters—Liat (15), Hannah (8) and Izzy (6); as well as a disagreeable Jack Russell Terrier named Popcorn, and a sweet Doberman named Brownie. In my spare time I love working with animal rescues, enjoying nature with my beautiful children (both human and canine), and playing as many sports as possible. In fact, last year I ran the Los Angeles marathon!
