Facial Rejuvenation Treatments:

Palomar Fractional Lux 1540 (Santa Monica) resurfaces the skin reducing the appearance of wrinkles, acne and surgical scars, melasma, and striae; it also resurfaces texture and evens tone; repairs 'crow's feet,' and blotchy skin. The experts at AVA MD use Palomar's (Santa Monica) microbeam technology to treat pinpointed areas of tissue; surrounding areas of untreated tissue then stimulate the healing process, providing for faster results, reduced side effects, and minimal downtime. Palomar (Santa Monica) treats virtually any trouble spot on the body, including face, neck, chest, arms and legs.

Pigmentation and Acne:

Cynosure Elite (Santa Monica) fades redness, age spots and spider veins; it also tightens skin. This laser treatment reduces enlarged or red, blue or purple capillaries (telangiectasia) on the face and body, fades photo damage, brown spots and post-acne pigmentation, firms skin texture and evens tone. Results will show in 3 to 4 weeks.

Downtime: None with slight redness for a day or two.
Number of treatments: 3 to 4 sessions per area, 3 weeks apart.


This laser selectively removes brown spots on the face, chest, back and hands as well as brown birthmarks.

Downtime: 2 to 14 days depending on the area treated. The face heals in 4 to 5 days while hands, arms, and chest may take up to 2 weeks. Results last as long as you stay out of the sun.
Number of treatments: 2 to 5, depending on the site.


The Isolaz (Santa Monica) laser for acne clears existing acne while helping to prevent future breakouts. This quick 'zit-be-gone fix' tackles skin discoloration, rosacea, and active acne. After one treatment, you'll notice break-outs on your face are smaller the next day and pores and blemishes are visibly lighter.

Downtime: None. Face may feel a bit warm following the treatment.
Number of treatments: 4 to 5 sessions, 3 weeks apart.


This treatment helps clear active acne, and can remodel many types of acne scars. At the same time, it works to lessen the appearance of lines and wrinkles. This treatment can be used on both the face and the back.

The VBeam Laser (Santa Monica) addresses redness from rosacea, broken capillaries, and port wine stains; and can also successfully reduce scars, warts, keloids, and other skin problems.

Downtime: None and with very little of the discoloration or purpura of earlier vascular lasers.

The Cutera Excel V addresses vascular conditions from rosacea, broken capillaries, port wine stains, leg veins, facial telangiectasia and poikiloderma of civatte. It effectively treats the face, neck, chest and leg area.

Downtime: None and with very little of the discoloration.

This UV phototherapy repigments lightened areas of the skin. Safe and effective, it addresses skin disorders such as vitiligo; white, mature stretch marks; and scars from acne, skin trauma or surgery.

Number of treatments: Depending on the patient and the condition, repigmentation usually requires at least 8 treatments, spaced a week apart.

Laser Resurfacing

Resurfaces skin to reduce acne scarring, wrinkles, and visible signs of aging.

Laser resurfacing is an ablative treatment designed to eliminate deeper wrinkles and more severe forms of sun damage.


This highly effective treatment resurfaces the epidermis causing the upper layer to peel off and regenerate a layer of new, healthy skin. Active FX (Santa Monica) causes skin tightening, reduces signs of aging, and stimulates collagen formation and plumping of the skin; the procedure is a favorite at AVA MD.

Downtime: 4 to 7 days, peeling lasts 2-4 days

The Erbium Yag Laser resurfaces skin to eliminate both fine and deep lines as well as smooth scars from accidents, surgery and/or acne.

Laser Hair Removal:

Say goodbye to shaving, waxing, and depilatory creams. GentleLase provides laser hair removal, selectively destroying pigmented hair in the follicle without damaging surrounding skin. Results are semi-permanent once the hair is cleared, though occasional minor touch-ups may be necessary over time.

Downtime: None with slight redness for a day or two.
Number of treatments: Depends on the patient but anywhere from 3 to 6 over a series of weeks or months are usually necessary to clear an area.
